Readiness Decision

In July 2021, the Fording River Extension (FRX) Project entered the provincial Readiness Decision phase of the coordinated assessment process. The Readiness Decision determines whether the Project is ready to enter the next phase of the assessment; it is also a consensus seeking point with Participating Indigenous Nations.

A Readiness Decision was issued following an extensive engagement process between the BC Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) and Ktunaxa. The Readiness Decision requires that Teck undertake additional engagement in priority areas with Ktunaxa and Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiit? on a revised Detailed Project Description.

Teck supports the EAO’s decision and will continue to meaningfully consult with the Ktunaxa and Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it?. We expect this process will take some time and will result in the submission of a revised DPD into the BC assessment process, starting a new Readiness Decision phase.

We remain committed to continued engagement with communities and local Indigenous groups as we work on the revised Detailed Project Description and throughout the coordinated assessment for the Project.
